City nears contract for new Lower Atkinson multi-sport court.
NEWBURYPORT -- City officials updated two recreation building projects during the September 14 Select Board meeting, while no Newburyport High School games were reported for the period by ArbiterLive.
TOWN -- Bids for the Lower Atkinson multi-sport court project were opened last week, and the city said it expects to sign a contract with the low bidder this week. Once a construction schedule is finalized, the city said it will update the community and work with the Ward 4 councilor on next steps. The project is being funded through the Community Preservation Act.
The Recreation Youth Services Center "continues to make great progress," with crews currently working on the interior before shifting to exterior work, according to the mayor's update. The project remains on time and on budget, with the city eyeing "probably late November and December" for occupancy. Sidewalk improvements along Low Street tied to the project are also underway.
